£117m unlocked for Sussex
The Sussex & Brighton Strategic Authority has unlocked a £117m funding boost for the region.
The money is secured over the next four years, with leaders set to focus on growing the economy, as reported at the authority’s first annual general meeting (pictured).
The authority is currently run as a partnership between the three upper-tier councils (including West Sussex County Council) before a mayor is elected in 2028.
On the future of local councils in West Sussex, we were expecting a decision on reorganisation this month but ministers have announced this is now deferred.

Remembering Richard
Tributes are being paid to former West Sussex County Councillor Richard Burrett, who has died aged 57.
Richard devoted many years to public service including as Conservative member for Pound Hill electoral division in Crawley from 2009 to 2026.
Council Chair Cllr Donna Johnson remembered him as hard-working and much-loved.
Leader of the Conservative Group Cllr Paul Marshall said he will be greatly missed.

Supporting unpaid carers
Our new strategy with the NHS for supporting unpaid carers has just been published.
Shaped by local carers themselves, it outlines the commitment we are making to better identify, involve and support carers and their health and wellbeing.

Action on illegal trading
Our Trading Standards team is continuing to take action to protect West Sussex from rogue businesses.
A shop in Crawley had its alcohol licence suspended after officers found evidence of underage alcohol sales, unsafe travel adapters, and illegal disposable vapes.
In Worthing, two men were sentenced for selling illegal tobacco products that were found during an inspection concealed inside a fridge in the stockroom.

MenB vaccine for young people at risk
A MenB vaccine is on offer to Year 13 students and those under 25 due to start university or move into residential further education for the first time this autumn.
Appointments can be booked online, and walk-ins at local pharmacies will be available for a limited time from 20 July.
Eligible young people will need two doses for full protection, with a second in August. Check eligibility.

The routes proposed between Crawley town centre and Manor Royal Business Park are developed in response to growing pressure on the town's transport network.
